Is Life at Night REALLY More Fun?

August 15, 2013 Fun Questions 1

I’ve just gotten current on the Chicagoland Vampires Series, so I still have vampire themes on my mind. In the last book, Biting Bad (which was great by the way and I will have a review posted soon), I kept thinking that as much as I’d like to be a Chicagoland Vampires vampire – you know, able to eat all I wanted without repercussions! – their response to the sun has serious repercussions that I’d have to think about. Here’s what I came up with, when asking “Is life at night REALLY more fun?”

The Bad

I LOVE the sunshine. I like to go to the beach (or pool) and swim in the sun on a hot day. I like to go outside and just lay in the sun, letting it soak into me until I fall asleep.

It’s dark at night. lol I know obvious, but I tend to have a really hard time seeing at night. So unless my sentence to the night hours came with super eyesight, this would be a problem. But it probably would come with super eyesight, so this is a non-complaint, I guess.

This goes hand in hand with the sunshine – but it’s colder at night. I like the heat way more than the cold. What can I say, I’m a Texas girl and I hate the cold weather. During the cold seasons the nights would be even more freezing.

So much happens during the day – how many jobs would you not be able to do during the night? how many events would you not be able to go to (baseball games, amusement parks, etc)?

Night time television. Need I say more?

The night is by general rule more dangerous (probably why myths feature vampires at nights – they are dangerous after all). If I didn’t have serious skills, that would be scary. This is a mixed bag for me though (see below).

They go practically comatose during the day. It’s not a light sleep – it’s like they’re dead to the world. That could be really unsettling and frustrating if you weren’t ready to go to sleep yet. Just because the sun is up you have no choice but to sleep (unless you’re one of the stronger ones).  Then again, I almost always sleep that way now at night, and it’s not so bad.

The Good

Well, I guess for those who don’t like the heat, the nights would be a better temperature during those hot days. Not true for me, but I get it.

If I got super eyesight out of the deal and could see at night that would be awesome. Enough said.

So the flip side of above- it’s more dangerous at night. Yes, that’s bad. But if you have kick but skills like Merit (Chicagoland Vampires, or insert your favorite kick ass hero/ine here) all the action really would be more exciting.

So much happens during the day. As in traffic, noise, people in the way. Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to get around without fighting traffic, for parking spots, or just general crowd pollution?

Ok, this last one is a flip of the negatives too. But have you ever had insomnia? I know I have. If I was beholden to the cycles of the sun and moon I would never have that problem. I would just sleep. Anxiety, stress, even hearburn be damned. So that would be pretty cool.

The Verdict

I really don’t know. I see big time advantages to both sides. I guess I’d really want to be a vampire that’s not restricted to the night, but has all the advantages of it. What can I say, I want to eat my cake and have it too!

What do you think?

Could you be sentenced to a night existence?
