Picking up where we left off, here’s day thirteen in the 15 Day Blogger challenge. It’s hosted by “Good Books, Good Wine,” if you’d like to check it out.
The ancient Guardians of the earth are preparing to unleash widespread destruction on the mortal world, and they want the witches to help them. If the witches refuse, their covens will be destroyed, including Horngate, the place Max has grudgingly come to think of as home. Max thinks she can find a way to help Horngate stand against the Guardians, but doing so will mean forging dangerous alliances — including one with a rival witch’s Shadowblade, who is as drawn to Max as she is to him — and standing with the witch she despises. Max will have to choose between the old life she still dreams of and the warrior she has become, and take her place on the side of right — if she survives long enough to figure out which side that is….
- Francis created a refreshing and exciting new Supernatural world. No vampires. No werewolves. Nothing you’ve come to expect.
- Max, the Shadowblade Prime and main character in this novel, is an incredible heroine. She’s a human turned into a supernatural creature against her will and she’s not thrilled about the servitude that came with her supernatural strength, healing or youth. She’s tough, she’s vulnerable, she’s lovable. You can’t help but adore her.
- The action! This is true Urban Fantasy in my opinion. Yes there’s a love interest, but that is beyond secondary. This book (and the others in the series) are non-stop action, mystery, and excitement. They’re also filled with incredible descriptions (Warning: not for the queasy) that put you right there.
Ok there’s so much more about this series to love, but I don’t want to ruin it for you, because you’re getting ready to buy it/check it out from the library right now… right?!?
If you are interested in it – it’s only $6.83 on Amazon Kindle, which is pretty cheap. And if you prefer a paper back, that’s only $7.19. I’d break my $5 rule for this series.
What books do you love that are underappreciated?
